During the Ayutthaya period,
in the reign of King Narai the Great (B.E. 2199 - 2231), the king had ordered to build a new city in the current downtown area. Whereby the names of "Korakapura City" and "Sema City" were combined into a new city name called "Nakhon Ratchasima City", but the people generally call it "Korat City".
During the Rattanakosin period,
King Rama 1 ordered to be elevated the city as a primarily city. The governor held the rank of Chao Phraya. The first Chao Phraya Nakhon Ratchasima was Pin Na Ratchasima and during this reign, Nakhon Ratchasima had offered 2 white elephants. Later in the year B.E. 2369, during the reign of King Rama III, Chao Anuwong, the ruler of Vientiane, led an army to overcome Nakhon Ratchasima and held citizens in captivity by force. Khunying Mo (wife of the Permanent Secretary of Nakhon Ratchasima (Phra Suriyadej Wiset Rit Thasitwitchai)), the keeper of the city, pretended to submit to the Lao soldiers. Once being taken to the Thung Samrit in Phimai District, they stopped in the middle of the road. When the opportunity arose, Lady Mo had formed an army to attack the Vientiane army. The heroism of Lady Emo was appreciated by Rama 3, he therefore ordered for the honorable entitlement of Lady Mo as "Thao Suranaree". Later in the reign of Rama 5 had ordered to gather the districts in the plateau and ordered Nakhon Ratchasima to be the governor of Central Laos Province in the year B.E. 2434 (Ror.Sor.110).
